PGDE programme is aimed to provide the broad training requisite for general graduates who wish to take up teaching as a career, to get professional training in education. Thus, ALL those having a degree other than education are welcome if they are thinking to engage in the teaching activity.
Why has it been designed?
After graduation from universities and colleges, many holders of the general degrees in either Science or Arts have found their way into the teaching profession without having trained to teach. Thus, to improve their career prospects, and enhance their professional, personal and vocational growth, they need further preparation to become full-fledged professional teachers.
The programme structure
The PGDE programme shall run for one year (which shall be divided into two semesters) and will be offered on full time basis. It shall consist of a minimum of 120 courses-credits divided into: 90 credits of theoretical courses; 18 credits of a research paper; and 12 credits of a teaching practice.
Admission Procedures
Generally, a candidate admitted for the PGDE programme should have a minimum qualification of the first degree with GPA of at least 2.7; or its equivalent from a recognized university. An applicant with a GPA lower than 2.7 may be admitted only if is having a recommendation letter of good performance from his/her employer.
